December Moon was inspired by a wisecrack from me. Each year I do a session on folk songs of Christmas for our Sunday School class and one year I told them Alice would probably write a new song-for the next week's session. She took me seriously! Driving back from giving a speech in Wichita she saw a new moon and a bare branched tree silhouetted against a twilight sky in the gently rolling Flint Hills. A Calypso beat began to play in her head and a song emerged, complete with melody and words. Ninety minutes later she burst into the house and said "Don't talk to me until I write down this song"
